I started writing the following on March 8th and never posted it.
Gosh it scares me how fast time goes by. It feels like that sand slipping through the hour glass and you can't stop it. So living mindfully and in the present is a really important practice for me.
I'm loving this little photo project that I'm doing - it gives me something specific to look for each day, and I find I see so much more. I also feel that it is igniting a little creative spark in me. And your comments are so encouraging. I was thrilled on the last photo to hear from two photographers who I really admire! Thank you. The fellow behind Pauline in the photo that I posted on Facebook is really interesting. I would love to spend time photographing him but how do you approach someone like him and then be able to capture the naturalness of what I see. When I spotted him the other day he was leaning against the doorway of the pub, he wears an old worn leather jacket with a scarf and the the great hat. He has a weathered face and a wirey beard and is always smoking one of his hand rolled cigarettes. It would definitely be black and white. Pauline and I got talking about him and the other long time residents in town. If I was staying here, I would love to go around meeting people and then try to capture their stories in portraits. She suggested that I could do that wherever I decide to settle. There are always those interesting people who give the town its flavour and it would be a great way to meet them.
Today we went up to Perigueaux to see if we could get some information on the Vezelay pilgrimage route that runs through there and continues south. We have had trouble finding any information about accommodation along the route and about how busy it is. So we went to the L'association des Amis et Pèlerins de Saint-Jacques de la Voie de Vézelay. You would think they could give us some helpful info - no. We checked the tourist office and went to a bookstore that was recommended that is right on the route but there is hardly any info. I think if I was younger, maybe I would see this as an opportunity to get in on the ground floor and help make this route as popular as the Le Puy route that I walked last year but I don't have the drive or energy. So I think it's pretty safe to say, that I will cross this route off my list as a possibility for a hostel. That doesn't mean I'm writing off Eymet as a place to hang out it would just have to be a different focus.
Our plan is to walk the Arles route starting the middle of April. It will be quite a different walk for me. Walking the Le Puy route was a soul searching time for me. This time I will be searching for a place that speaks to me. Should be fun!!
