Key to the house in Eymet!
"An invisible red thread connects those destined to meet, regardless of time, place, or circumstances. The thread may stretch or tangle, but never break." - Ancient Chinese Proverb
I’ve thought about this a lot lately. As I write I have begun my next adventure. I have left a wonderful home in Victoria with the most amazing roommate. I asked myself more than once in the last couple of months why I would want to leave but each time I doubted this path something happened to put me back on track.
The latest was so far the greatest. A friend of my roommate had called to ask me about the pilgrimage that I walked last year. We got together and had tea and talked about the walk. I showed her on the map the area that I was hoping to open a hostel one day, which turns out is the same area that her and her husband own a house. The next thing I knew she was offering me the house to use this winter in exchange for paying utilities. Normally they paid for someone to check on the house during the winter and they both preferred the idea of having someone in the house. I couldn’t believe my good fortune. The house is in a village called Eymet, which is east of Bourdeaux and south of Bergerac. I am so excited to have a base from November until mid April.
As I danced around the kitchen, I said to my roommate – why don’t you come for Spring Break?! And so the plan was hatched. We checked out flights and she booked later that week! It makes it much easier to leave knowing I will get to see her in March. We had developed a really strong friendship in a very short time. This was another one of those red thread experiences. We met because I was looking for a room to rent in between selling the boat and going to France. I was introduced to her through a friend of a friend.
I couldn’t have found a better place. Her home is not only beautiful it has an incredible energy. It was the perfect place to become grounded before heading off to France. And the bonus is the friendships that I developed with my roommate and her family and friends. The Saturday before I left we hosted a pot luck dinner to say à bientôt. We did a sit down dinner for 16 with a great mix of new friends and old. I had my connections from Revelstoke, Whistler, Victoria, Winnipeg as well as the connections I made through my roommate. It was an amazing mix of people and a truly wonderful evening.
After spending quite a bit of time trying to fit everything I wanted to take into my pack, it was time to leave. My roommate's father drove me to the airport and it was off to Winnipeg where I will spend a few days with my Mom and her husband and catch up with old friends. Unfortunately my cell phone decided not to get on the plane! Thank goodness it wasn't my passport or that lovely key I'm holding in the photo!!!
By the way I think I will name my hostel The Red Thread.
